Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Truffles

“You never lose by loving. You only lose by holding back.”

I read this quote the other day and couldn’t help but realize how often I really do hold back. I mean sure it’s not like we are all supposed to be running wild and uninhibited without questioning a single thought or action. In fact, it’s just the opposite. We, I mean I, would appear to question EVERYTHING. I don’t mean, “What am I going to have for dinner?” or “What am I going to do this weekend?” but things like, “If I say this how will it effect this situation?” or “If I don’t do that will it prevent failure?”. There are so many things that cross my mind on a daily basis that I often find myself believing in an outcome that may not ever actually occur. The unknown creates a fear in us that’s just about as realistic as the childhood monster you created that resided under your bed. It was a made-up googly-eyed creature that not only prevented sleep but was really only as tangible as we made it out to be. Kind of like our fears as an adult.  The irony in all of this is that the easier solution to the scenario is to hold back to protect yourself from failure, or worse heartbreak, even though the consequence is the likely hood of missing out on something good entirely. The trick is being able to tell yourself that monsters don’t really exist and putting that little bit of doubt to bed, no pun intended. If you’re willing to trust yourself, your strength, take a risk and a leap, such as in expressing your love to someone, may just in fact open the door to even greater possibilities. Allowing yourself to be fearless in love, as risky as it may be, can also offer you a love in return that you may never experience by holding back. It’s a pretty simple choice when you lay it all out. I know, I know, easier said than done, as they say, but being able to set aside your fears and “what if’s” may just in fact open the door to what it is you’ve been searching for. There’s nothing lost in loving no matter the outcome. In truth, your heart is not meant to be kept only to yourself.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Truffles

Author: The Happy Hungry Yogi

Makes: 10 truffles

Total time: 40 minutes

  • 1/2c vanilla plant based protein (I used this)
  • 1/2c creamy unsalted peanut butter
  • 1/4c unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 1/2c semi sweet dairy-free chocolate chips

  1. Combine the protein, peanut butter, almond milk, cinnamon and sea salt in a medium sized bowl. Mix well to combine.
  2. Add the chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl and melt on high, about one minute.
  3. Using a one tablespoon measuring spoon, scoop out and level the protein peanut butter mixture and form into a ball.
  4. Roll the ball in the melted chocolate to coat and gently place onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all truffles are made.
  6. Place the baking sheet with the truffles in the fridge to set for about 30 minutes.
